Isn't Solid State Inherently Rugged?
Yes, it is. Solid State memory has no moving parts, so it is able to withstand high shock and vibration inputs and is not susceptible to altitude changes. It is also possible to extend the operational temperature of Solid State Drives through screening. While the cost differential between solid state and movable media can sometimes be prohibitive, Solid State Memory becomes an affordable alternative when required storage capacities are relatively low.

Removable Solid State Drives from MSS utilize high insertion drive/docking bay combinations. MSS has standard removable products available, and can design a customized solution to meet customer requirements. Fastening is achieved either through rail and thumbscrews, or with wedge lock systems where thermal transfer is paramount.
Custom Connections & Cabling
Customized packages can be designed around customer-specified, military or non-standard connectors, power and signal cables. Flex cables developed by MSS are customizable for difficult routings and provide secure cable strain relief for high shock and vibration environments. They also provide size and weight savings, as well as meet flammability specifications, without PVC insulation.
Secure and Destructive Erase
MSS can program the Solid State Drive to pre-set secure erase functions when erase is hardware (button) initiated. The erase initiation button can then be added to the hardware package.
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Protection
As Solid State Memory Module clocking speeds increase, radiated EMI also increases. EMI can cause failures that are notoriously intermittent and difficult to pinpoint. MSS' sealed enclosures are designed to drastically reduce EMI and increase the ability to pass stringent validation testing.
Protection from Salt, Fog, Dust, Humidity, Fungus
Sealed enclosures and conformal coating ensure passage under DO-160 and MIL-STD requirements.
Screening can be done at custom temperature increments and at a lower cost than the OEMs. When power is available, heaters may be employed to meet low-end specifications or customer temperature increments, as well as extend temperature past screening capabilities.
Packaging provides protection from ESD, accidental, and shipment damage. It also provides field protection during maintenance and repair of the system, as well as transportation of removable disks on/off vehicle.
